UPDATE
October 9, 2024
Our friend has resumed chemotherapy and required a blood transfusion. The blood transfusion was effective and increased his energy (and appetite!) They are still waiting to get a report on the effectiveness of the treatments. We PRAISE the Lord that his medical bills have been paid in full. The family is so grateful for God's provision and your generosity. Gifts given to the Emergency Fund will enable CofP to respond immediately to other crisis that our sponsored children face.

Since the last update, our friend in Botswana has celebrated his 15th birthday, returned home to Maun for a brief respite from chemotherapy, and has returned to Gabarone to continue his treatment. We have not received any updates on the effectiveness of the chemotherapy or how well he's tolerating the treatment. Let's continue to pray for him and his family.
UPDATE
August 5, 2024
We are so saddened to report that the doctors' initial concerns have been confirmed. This 14 year old boy has cancer. He has started chemotherapy and will stay in Gaborone to receive treatment. Later in August, he'll be at home for a week before returning to the capital for additional treatment.
Gaborone is over 500 miles from the city of Maun where he and his family live. He and his mom are a 12-hour, overnight but ride away from family, friends, and their community. They are facing the unimaginable, with none of their typical support system by their sides.
Join us in praying and giving to help them know they are not alone.
UPDATE
On July 12, 2024, a 14 year old sponsored boy in Botswana was admitted to the hospital because he was suffering from acute shortness of breath and abdominal pain. In the following days, he was medically evacuated to the capital city to get a diagnosis and receive treatment. He has since had a liter of fluid drained from around his heart and additional fluid drained from his lungs. Other concerns from the tests have come to the surface and he has been transferred to a different private hospital in the capital city where a team of specialists are caring for him. The doctors are working hard to manage his symptoms and come to a diagnosis.
