Colombia is located in the northwest corner of South America and is the fourth largest country on the continent. Its territory includes Amazon rainforest, mountains, highlands, grasslands, deserts, and islands and coastlines along both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, making it one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. Since the 1960s, Colombia has suffered from armed conflict between government forces, guerilla groups, crime syndicates, and paramilitary groups all trying to increase their influence in the country. In the 1990s, the conflict escalated, and a peace treaty was finally signed in 2016, although some violence in the country has continued. Colombia is an urbanized country, with the majority of the population living in the cities of Bogotá, Medellin, Cali, and Barranquilla.

The Children of Promise program in Colombia, called Niños de Promesa, began in Bogotá in 1996. It expanded in 1998 to minister to children and families in the southern city of Puerto Asis along the Amazon River, many of whom have been affected by political conflicts between guerilla groups and paramilitary soldiers. In 2008, Niños de Promesa expanded again to serve children and their families in more neighborhoods in Bogotá. The three Niños de Promesa Directors in Colombia, Elena de Barbour, Rev. José Jiménez, and Jeanet de Pinto, along with volunteers and the Church of God congregations in the country, help the sponsored children receive food, education, and health care. They also make sure the children are discipled and experience the love of Jesus in the community of the church.
