Nepal, located in Southeast Asia, is landlocked between China and India. The rugged Himalaya Mountains cover the northern part of the country. Nepal contains eight of the world’s 10 highest mountain peaks, including Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak, on the border with China. Nepal often has severe thunderstorms, flooding, landslides, and drought. It also can experience famine depending on the timing, intensity, and duration of summer monsoons. Nepal is the only official Hindu state in the world, and it has never been ruled by colonial power. Although the country’s economy has improved over the last several decades, it is heavily dependent on its relationship with India. Many workers still make just enough to cover their basic daily needs. 

The Children of Promise program in Nepal began in 1998 under the direction of Revs. Amos and Semper Moore, missionaries of the Church of God from Meghalaya, India. The church in Nepal must be careful as it carries out its ministry, as it is against the law to convert to Christianity. Children of Promise Program Director Rev. Bir Bahadur Waiba, the program committee, and the churches in Nepal help sponsored children receive food, education, and health care. They also make sure the children are discipled and experience the love of Jesus in the community of the church.
