Zimbabwe is a landlocked country located in southeast Africa. Zimbabwe has sixteen official languages, with English, Shona, and Ndebele being the most common. 

Formerly known as Southern Rhodesia and Rhodesia, Zimbabwe was a major trade route and controlled gold, ivory, and copper trade with the Swahili coast. After several wars, a peace agreement was established and Zimbabwe was declared sovereign in April 1980. Under the authoritarian rule of Robert Mugabe from 1980-2017, there were widespread human rights violations and the economy of Zimbabwe suffered greatly. 

The Church of God in Zimbabwe was born in 1992 and has grown to 66 congregations since then. The church is largely rurally based and has suffered financially because Zimbabwe has the highest inflation rate world wide. The unemployment rate is high and most church members live below the poverty line. Others have moved to neighboring countries in search of work, often leaving their families behind.
