Argentina is the second largest country in South America and the largest Spanish-Speaking country in the world. It declared independence from Spain in 1816 along with Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Argentina claims the Falkland Islands; however, the islands remain under the rule of Great Britain after Argentina was defeated in the Falklands War in 1982. Political instability in the 20th century led to economic decline in Argentina. The country has experienced some economic recovery since the Falklands War, but many people still live in poverty, especially in the cities.
In 2012, the Church of God started the Niños de Promesa (Children of Promise) ministry in the city of Posadas as an outreach to children in the community of Candelaria. The children in this urban community often do not have nutritious food, and some are unable to attend school, even though many of their families moved to the city in search of a better life. The Niños de Promesa program began as a Saturday morning program, bringing Christian lessons and activities to the children of Candelaria, and it developed into a full sponsorship ministry. Program Director Monica Fischer and the committee of a local Church of God congregation in Posadas help the sponsored children receive food, education, and health care. They also make sure the children are discipled and able to experience the love of Jesus in the community of the church.
Your sponsorship helps bring nutrition, education, health care, discipleship, and wholeness to a child in Argentina.
