Botswana, a landlocked country in southern Africa, became independent from Great Britain in 1966. Throughout its history, it has been one of the most politically stable countries in Africa, and it is the continent’s oldest continuous democracy. About 70% of Botswana’s land is part of the Kalahari Desert, and its climate has a dry season and a short rainy season. Because so much of its territory is desert, Botswana is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world. Its largest industries are mining, cattle, and tourism. Botswana has been hit especially hard by HIV and AIDS. Although the country has been at the forefront of treatment and prevention in Africa, the effects of HIV and AIDS have caused widespread health and social challenges for the country.

The Children of Promise program in Botswana began in 2019. One of its primary goals has been to minister to children and their families affected by the HIV and AIDS epidemic. Many families have suffered emotionally and socially and have been left without steady incomes or support. Many children do not have stable homes, and their basic needs are not being met. Sponsorships help provide stability for these children, making sure they receive food, education, and health care. Volunteers from the local church walk alongside each child to encourage, listen, and help them experience the love of Jesus in the community of the church.

Your sponsorship helps bring nutrition, education, health care, discipleship, and wholeness to a child in Botswana.
